Haristone Wanyonyi on Saturday morning delivered a rare gold in the men’s 10,000m walk race take Kenya’s medal tally to six-four gold, two silver and two bronze.
He became the first Kenya to have won gold at the world athletics under 20 championship that is set to conclude on Sunday here at Kasarani stadium.
Wanyonyi clocked 42:10.84 ahead of Indin Amit who settled for Silver (42:17.94 with Spaniard Paul McGrath taking bonze.
“I was not expecting to win but I decided to skip the last water point and one I had three steps lead, I knew that I was close to winning. I never allowed him (Amit) to catch up with me,” said Wanyonyi.
