Vihiga United have parted ways with Technical Director Nick Yakhama as  effects of Covid-19 pandemic continue to take its toll on the FKF Premier League clubs.

The former AFC Leopards, Western Stima and Mumias Sugar coach has been with Vihiga since August 2019 when he was hired alongside current coach Sammy Okoth.

But things have not been rosy for Vihiga in the Premier League since the duo masterminded their return to top-flight football via play-offs victory over Kisumu All Stars last year.

Vihiga’s financial struggles appear to have affected their performance on the pitch as they are currently in the relegation zone (16th with 11 points from 16 matches).

Confirming Yakhama’s departure, Vihiga chairman Kahi Indimuli said they have scrapped off the TD position due to financial constraints.

“We have parted ways with Yakhama (Nick) on a mutual consent after the Executive Committee’s meeting resolved to abolish the TD position,” said Indimuli.

“Yakhama has served the club diligently and we have benefitted from his experience and expertise. We regret losing him but I wish him well in his future undertakings in football.”

On his parting shot, Yakhama said: “It is true I have left Vihiga United. The club is facing financial problems and could not afford to sustain the TD position.”

“I have had a good time at the club. They have a lot of talented players with the potential of playing at the top level.”
