NAIROBI, Kenya- Tusker
FC rose to second on the Kenya Premier League (KPL) table after grinding out to
a 1-0 victory over AFC Leopards SC at the Ruaraka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Top marksman Timothy Otieno was on hand yet again, scoring
his 11th goal of the season, to boost the brewers within three points of
leaders Gor Mahia FC.
Kakamega Homeboyz FC, who were held to a 1-1 drasw by
Bandari FC on Saturday, are in third place, level on points with Tusker but
Robert Matano’s side boast a better goal difference.
Leopards new signing Elvis Rupia had the duty to lead the
Leopards attacking line and he proved to be a menace throughout the encounter.
Rupia was unlucky to see Robert Mboya save his penalty after
winning it himself and the Otieno strike in the 62nd minute was enough for
Tusker as they held on for the important victory.
Leopards, who were on a three-match winning streak before
the match, seem to be adapting well under interim coach Anthony Kimani, and are
in sixth place with 34 points after 20 games.
Both teams are off league duty until Saturday, February 22
when Tusker host Wazito FC as AFC Leopards also have a tricky home fixture
against Sofapaka FC.
