President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to young protesters, urging them to cease their demonstrations, which he claims are damaging the nation. Speaking after a church service in Bomet County, Ruto emphasized his commitment to protecting Kenya from what he described as anarchists.
Ruto stated that he has given the protesters ample opportunity to express their grievances and has made significant concessions, including rejecting the Finance Bill of 2024, yet the demonstrations have persisted. “I dropped the Finance Bill, I called them to come to the table and talk to me, they refused and asked me to go to X, I went there but they ran away,” he said.
The President expressed frustration with the protest leaders, who he described as “faceless and formless,” and reiterated his willingness to engage in dialogue. However, he made it clear that continued disruptions would not be tolerated. “I have told them, my friends, it must now come to an end. I have given a chance to everybody to say whatever they want, but it can’t continue like this. The country is more important than any group of people. We must stand together as a nation and protect our nation,” Ruto declared.
Ruto’s comments underscore the growing tension between the government and the Gen Z protesters, who have been demonstrating for the past month. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the government will handle the ongoing unrest and whether the protesters will heed the President’s warning.
