Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma is calling on President William Ruto to appoint a member of the Luo community to fill the position of Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of the National Government.
The Interior post became vacant when President Ruto promoted Prof. Kithure Kindiki to Deputy President after Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, leaving a significant gap in the ministry responsible for security and governance.
Kaluma highlighted the Luo community’s dedication to defending human rights and fundamental freedoms, arguing that these values deserve recognition through a Cabinet appointment. “Every Kenyan community should receive its fair share of public service roles. The Interior Cabinet Secretary role should go to a Luo, as they are among the strongest advocates for human rights and freedoms,” he stated.
President Ruto now faces the challenge of choosing a successor who can uphold stability in security and governance. Reports suggest Environment CS Aden Duale and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah are potential contenders, though Ichung’wah has clarified he is not seeking a Cabinet role and remains focused on his responsibilities in Parliament.
