The Kenya Meteorological Department has advised Nairobi residents to brace for long rains set to begin between November 5 and 11. The department urges locals to stay prepared and take precautions as the season’s rainfall is expected to bring occasional storms.
According to the forecast, heavy rainfall is also anticipated across other regions, including the Highlands on both sides of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the greater Rift Valley, southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and parts of northeastern Kenya. Some of these areas may experience isolated thunderstorms, the department warned.
However, the meteorological office expects the second half of the forecast period to be mostly sunny and dry, offering a reprieve from the rains. Additionally, areas like northeastern and northwestern Kenya will experience daytime temperatures soaring above 30°C, while some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Central Rift Valley could see nighttime temperatures dipping below 10°C.
The forecast further noted that in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley, residents can expect sunny intervals in the mornings, with occasional light rain showers in isolated areas during the early part of the forecast period.
With the shifting weather patterns, residents are encouraged to stay updated on local forecasts and take necessary measures to ensure safety during this rainy season.
