National Super League side Murang’a Seal beat Kenya Premier League Wazito FC 1-0 in a friendly match at the Marist International University on Thursday morning.
John Mabia scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute of the match to gift Vincent Nyaberi’s side a motivating victory.
Wazito fielded a star-studded team but they failed to penetrate the resolute Murang’a defense throughout the encounter.
“The game was good and I am happy with the effort my team put in today.
“Wazito is a top tier team and to get a win in such a friendly motivates the players and it proves that we are ready to battle the upcoming season,” Nyaberi told SportPesa News after the match.
Kenya international Cliff Nyakeya had a couple of efforts in the first half, with one coming off the bar and the next stopped well by the custodian.
Aside from that, there were no open chances on goal and some poor officiating cost Nyaberi’s side a couple of clear cut opportunities to attack the Wazito goal.
“This was more of a fitness test for us and I am pleased that we got the work out in despite losing by a solitary goal.
“Seal are a good side and very competitive, they put up a fight until the end and they are worthy opposition. Definitely a team to look out for in the future,” Wazito coach Francis Kimanzi said.
The game came a week after Seal played yet another friendly against record Kenya Premier League winners Gor Mahia FC at their privately-owned St. Sebastien Park in Murang’a.
M-Seal lost the game 1-0 courtesy of a Sando Yangayay effort but have proven that they are ready to go up against the big boys when the time comes.
“We are planning at least two more friendlies before the league kicks off next month. Basically just to get fit and gauge my team as we prepare to better our performance from last season,” Nyaberi concluded.
