Mistake Wenger made at Arsenal - Ferdinand and Figo in full agreement

Rio Ferdinand and Luis Figo are huge fans of Serge Gnabry and seemingly in full agreement that Arsene Wenger made a big mistake when selling him at Arsenal.

Gnabry was a youth player at Arsenal and came through the ranks in 2012.

He spent four seasons with the Gunners – one of which was spent on loan at West Brom, where he made one appearance under Tony Pulis.

Wenger parted company with the German in 2016, with Gnabry signing for Bundesliga club Werder Bremen.

But after just one season, in which he thoroughly impressed, Gnabry joined Bayern Munich, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Last year the winger won the Champions League, and he is now a fully-fledged Germany international to boot.

Figo recently spoke out on Gnabry in an interview with Marca, where he admitted the German reminds him of himself when he was at the top of his game at Real Madrid.

“If you have to ask me for a player that reminds me of the way I played, I’ll say I really like [Ousmane] Dembele. He has enormous potential,” said Figo.

“Then there are others like Gnabry at Bayern Munich.

“He’s very good, young. They’re players I like because they like to take risks and have no fear. And that’s important for teams that play with wingers.”

Former Manchester United centre-back Ferdinand has also previously heaped praise on Gnabry, pointing out his trajectory since being discarded by Arsenal.

“If you can get around 20 goals and ten-plus assists, you are sitting at the top level, a world-class wideman. He looks a well-educated player [and] does all the right things – with and without the ball,” said Ferdinand on BT Sport.

“He’s got to be one of the most improved players in football at the moment.

“In terms of his trajectory, from where he was being discarded by Arsenal and West Brom to where he is now – wow.”
