Premier League side Manchester United named their UEFA Champions League 25-man squad on Thursday.

The usual superstars were picked with goalkeeper David De Gea,  Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford among the players in the final list.

There are, however, three big names that head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left out ahead of the much-anticipated clash against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on October 20.

The Red Devils left out Sergio Romero (goalkeeper), Phil Jones (defender) and Marcos Rojo (defender). The trio will not play any part in Man United’s campaign in the 2020/21 season.

New signings Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles, Facundo Pellistri, and Edinson Cavani were all included.

“Manchester United’s Champions League squad has been submitted to UEFA ahead of our opening group fixture against Paris Saint-Germain on 20 October.

“Homegrown youngsters aged 21 or younger, such as Mason Greenwood, Teden Mengi and Brandon Williams, can remain on the B list, which could be added to up until midnight before any particular fixture,” the three-time Champions League winners said in a statement.

Man United further added: “Five substitutions will be permitted in each Champions League game, which means an extended 23-matchday squad can be named.

“This may allow some experience for younger players to travel with the group, particularly in the absence of the UEFA Youth League until next year.”

UEFA rules state clearly that there must be a minimum of eight locally trained players, four of whom have come through a club’s ranks between 15 and 21.

United’s Tim Fosu-Mensah, Lee Grant, Dean Henderson, Jesse Lingard, Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Axel Tuanzebe and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have all been classified as either ‘club trained’ or ‘association trained’.
