Harry Maguire’s sister was allegedly ‘injected with an unknown substance by two Albanian men,’ sparking the brawl which led to the Man Utd star’s arrest.

The court hearing in Syros, Greece, began on Tuesday despite a request from Maguire’s lawyer to postpone.

Alexandros Anagnostakis defending later claimed to the court that Maguire’s sister Daisy had been approached by the men before they injected her, causing her to faint.

Maguire and his co-defendants are then said to have called a vehicle to pick them up and take them to hospital before plain-clothed police officers intervened.

The incident in Mykonos Old Town late last Thursday landed Maguire, his brother Joe, and their friend Christopher Sharman behind bars for two nights before they were bailed.

Police prosecutors claim two of the defendants tried to escape before pushing officers away with their hands and feet as they clambered into the van.

After asking to go to hospital they were instead taken to the police station where they are alleged to have met officers.

Mr Anagnostakis claims it was there that Maguire was kicked in the leg by officers and told “his career was over”.

The prosecuting team then alleged that one of the defendants shouted: “F***, f*** the police,” before striking an officer.

One of the officers is also said to have received first aid after suffering an injury as Maguire became angry once placed in handcuffs.

He claims that Maguire pushed him over and he suffered injuries to his back and leg, forcing him to take the next day off work.

Prosecutors also claim Maguire tried to get out of his arrest by saying: “Do you know who I am? I am the captain of Manchester United, I am very rich, I can give you money, I can pay you, please let us go.”

All three men have been charged with assault and assault against a police officer.

The Maguire brothers are further charged with attempted bribery.

Harry Maguire and Sharman are also charged with verbal assault.

All three deny all charges.

Maguire was not present at the trial after flying back to the UK at the weekend but his father, Alan, sat in the front row of the courtroom.

Mr Anagnostakis had made attempts to delay the proceedings stating he had video evidence, shot by someone outside the police station in Mykonos, allegedly showing the three defendants being “mistreated” by officers and he needed time to view the footage.

His request was denied and the trial is ongoing.
