Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo reportedly has a number of performance-related clauses in his contract, including an eye-watering £8,000 per goal.
Eyebrows were raised when United confirmed the loan signing of Ighalo from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua in January, with many believing the 30-year-old was not an adequate replacement for the injured Marcus Rashford.
So far he has proved his critics wrong, however, and has scored four goals for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, most recently a stunning strike in United’s 5-0 thrashing of LASK in the Europa League.
And according to The Sun Ighalo has a lot of incentive to continue hitting the back of the net because he receives £8,000 every time he bags.
It is also reported he takes home an extra £9,000 for every Premier League win in which he is involved in the squad, with £3,000 for a draw.
And if United qualify for the Champions League when the Premier League eventually returns, Ighalo stands to earn another bonus.
Despite these clauses, Ighalo still earns significantly less than he did at Shanghai after taking a 40 per cent pay-cut to ensure he was able to join the club he supported as a child.
Speaking about the move to United, Ighalo said: “It still feels like a dream sometimes. But I don’t want to get carried away with too much emotion so that I am able to concentrate on training well and playing well. I know I am playing for the biggest club in the world.”
Despite Ighalo’s fine form United fans will also be delighted when Rashford returns, and it appears the England star is nearing full fitness judging by his social media activity.
In a video for the viral Stay At Home Challenge, the 22-year-old can be seen first playing keepy-uppy with a roll of toilet paper with the attacker showing some good close control.
Rashford then rounded out his effort by volleying the loo roll through a doorway, before celebrating as if he had just scored a crucial goal for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Though clearly a very limited routine, Rashford appears to be nearing full fitness as the Utd attacker did not look to be in any pain throughout the clip.
