Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL) has confirmed there will be live television coverage of the ongoing 2021 Magical Kenya Open on Sunday.
In a press statement sent to newsrooms on Saturday evening, KOGL said that the European Tour technical crew behind the production was unable to deliver live world feed coverage of the third day of the Magical Kenya Open due to persisting logistical difficulties beyond their control.
“We are pleased to confirm the logistical difficulties which have so far impacted the live world feed coverage of the Magical Kenya Open presented by Johnnie Walker have been resolved,” read part of the statement.
“Live coverage of the final round on Sunday 21st March 2021 will be from 1200 – 1400 hrs.”
While thanking the Kenyan government for facilitating their equipment clearance at the port Mombasa, Kenya Open Golf Limited also apologized to Kenyan golf and sports fans who were unable to watch live television coverage of the ongoing 2021 Magical Kenya Open .
“While the various logistical difficulties which caused the delay in equipment reaching Karen Golf Club were beyond our control, we fully understand and share the frustrations of our broadcast partner as well the many Kenyan golf and sports fans who were looking forward to coverage our major international golf event,” added the statement.
“We are grateful for the action by the Government of Kenya and its specialised agencies at the port of Mombasa in Kenya who have helped expedite the clearing of the equipment.
“We are now pleased that the European Tour Productions will be in a position to broadcast live golf, starting with he aforementioned final day of the Magical Kenya Open presented by Johnny Walker followed by next week’s inaugural Kenya Savannah Classic presented by Absa.
“Thank you for your continued patience and once again we apologise for any inconvenience caused”
The tournament was expected to reach over 800 million households across the world.
Locally, leading broadcaster KTN was to relay the action live for five hours every day. Kenya Breweries Limited has already set up 24 mini centres where fans can troop in to watch the game.
The centres spread across the country are located in the golf courses.
The locations are in Vet Lab, Muthaiga, Sigona, Limuru, Royal, Kiambu, Railways, Golf Park and Ruiru.
Others are in Thika, Nanyuki, Nyeri, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kericho, Kitale, Kakamega, Nyanza, Nyali, Vipingo, Malindi, Mombasa and Karen.
Apart from watching the proceedings of the two tournaments, the fans have an opportunity to compete in mini golf tournaments being held at the venues.
