Flamingo Deaflympics FC women’s side takes on Kids FC Kiserian in the inaugural Deaf League Championships at Afraha Open grounds on Saturday.

Thereafter, Flamingo Deaflympics FC men’s side takes on Kids FC Kiserian in the second match to prepare the national team players in readiness for the World Deaflympics Games in Brazil next year.

In the two matches, players are expected to start gaining recommended fitness levels in readiness for the global showpiece.

Nakuru teams have several players in the Deaf Harambee Stars and Starlets preparing for the 24th edition of the summer Deaf Olympics in Brazil in May next year.

“It is the reason, we are trying to engage our players in a number of preparatory matches before we release them for national duties,” said Flamingo Deaf FC chairman Dominic Ruto.

Out of the 27 players that are with the national women team – Deaf Harambee Starlets, Flamingo Deaf FC contributes nine players to the team.

The men’s side has only four players to the national team – Deaf Harambee Stars

This is after their recent participation in the African Deaflympics in Nairobi where the men’s team finished fifth with the meal winners being Ghana, Mali and Egypt who are the official African representatives to the Brazilian Games.

However, it is only Deaf Harambee Starlets that qualified for the global games having gold medalists ni the Nairobi African games that were hosted at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani recently.

Therefore, the female side automatically qualified for the global games.
