The Olympics Committee of Kenya has announced the Commonwealth Games 2022 Queen’s Baton Relay will arrive in Kenya on Monday, November 1, 2021. The baton will spend three days in the country.

The committee will use the relay to showcase the country’s ‘unique features and untold stories from athletes, Batonbearers and youth striving for change in the community.

“The Queens Baton Relay is a celebration of the journey towards the Commonwealth Games.  We will have three days of celebrations while the Baton will be in the country. The theme of the Kenya Relay is Sustainability, Youth and Inclusion. We are planning to have a lot of activities around these three theme areas,” NOC-K Athletes Representative and the Baton Relay Project Manager Humphrey Kayange said.

“We hope that Kenyans will join in and celebrate the journey towards the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham 2022. The Games will be staged next year July and it is yet another opportunity for Kenyan athletes to go out there and represent the country and give the best of their ability for this great nation,” Kayange added.

From Olympic committee:

The Queen’s Baton Relay celebrates and connects communities from across the 72 Commonwealth countries and territories during the build-up to the Games.

The Baton carries a message from the Head of the Commonwealth, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The Official launch was held on October 7th October 2021 in a unique ceremony at Buckingham Palace where her Majesty the Queen placed her message to the Commonwealth in the Baton where it’s sealed and locked and will be read out in full next year at the Birmingham 2022 Opening Ceremony.

Before arriving in Kenya, the Baton will have just visited Cameroon and after departing Kenya, the Baton will make its way to Uganda. Kenya is looking forward to Birmingham 2022, to taking a fairly prodigious contingent to the Games involving about 15 sports.
