Renowned activist Boniface Mwangi has strongly criticized President William Ruto following his recent Cabinet reshuffle, which saw Soipan Tuya nominated as the Defence Cabinet Secretary, replacing Aden Duale.
Mwangi’s condemnation focused on what he perceives as Ruto’s arrogance and lack of emotional intelligence. He insinuated that Tuya’s appointment was driven by a personal relationship between Ruto and Tuya rather than merit. “Appointing your girlfriend to command battle-hardened soldiers takes a lot of arrogance,” Mwangi remarked, underscoring his belief that Tuya is unqualified for the critical role.

The activist’s accusations are bolstered by persistent rumors on social media about an alleged affair between Ruto and Tuya. These rumors gained traction following Tuya’s divorce from her husband, Stephen Ole Kudate, a former Member of the County Assembly, shortly after her initial Cabinet appointment.
Mwangi’s critique adds to the controversy surrounding Tuya’s appointment and raises questions about the criteria used for such significant government roles. The Defence docket, overseeing the country’s military forces, is particularly sensitive and demands a leader with proven experience and capability.
Soipan Tuya’s nomination will undoubtedly be scrutinized not just for her professional qualifications but also for the alleged personal connections influencing her appointment. As the debate unfolds, it remains to be seen how President Ruto and his administration will address these serious allegations.
